Tips for minimalist photography

Have you ever heard of minimalist photography? Yes, this type of photography has become a trend recently. Maximum use of empty space, single objects, line elements and color contrast can create minimalist photos that are unique and interesting. But it turns out, getting minimalist photos can be more difficult than taking regular photos, KEE friends! It takes time and experimentation to get the photos you want. Usually the subject has a lot of empty space around it. Want to know the tips?

1. Make objects look simple

Making a simple composition doesn't mean making it boring and uninteresting, but you can choose a subject that is interesting and doesn't take up much space in the frame. Make sure your main object is the center of attention and is not distracted by the presence of other objects. If there are distractions you want to eliminate, you can move your object to a clearer background or you can change the angle at which you take the photo.

2. Leave lots of negative space

Usually negative space is used as a background to isolate the main object so that it can emphasize the center of attention in the photo. Even if the object you take is very small, empty space can help the object become the center of attention of the photo because nothing stands out more than the object. You can experiment so you can try different compositions and play with empty space.

3. Use a homemade background

To get a plain background, sometimes you can make it yourself! For example, if you want a yellow background, you can use yellow paper as a photo background. Apart from that, the background you create is safe from all kinds of interference.

4. Use the sky as negative space.

If you take photos outdoors, sometimes it's difficult to find free space. You can use the sky as a background. If the object you want to photograph cannot be moved, you can take it from a low angle towards the sky.

5. Use contrast color

You can use two contrasting colors in your photos to make them more interesting. Make sure the color of your object contrasts with the color of the negative space so that your object stands out even more. If the color of the object is striking, you can use a dark background, and vice versa.

6. Include a small part of the object

You can make a photo more interesting by including a small part of the object in the frame. For example, you can include the hands or arms of objects so that people looking at them are curious about what they are doing and why they are there.

7. Create a silhouette

You can give a mysterious effect to photos by creating a silhouette effect. Usually the best time to create a silhouette is in the morning and evening. You can position your object on the empty sky at the back. You can pick up an object at a high place and you can pick it up from a very low angle. You can also create a silhouette indoors by shooting towards a window.

8. Lines & Drawing Patterns

Lines and patterns can help in creating minimalist photo compositions. You can look for interesting geometric patterns to create abstract and minimalist photos.

9. Make black and white photos

You can create a mystical and surreal impression with black and white photo effects. With a clean background and set in such a way, including the clothes and objects that will be used in the photo, it will make the minimalist impression even more prominent.

10. Tell stories through photos

You can tell stories through the photos you take. Usually you take photos from a position that is higher than the object so that you can capture the conditions around the object which can complete the story in the photo. You just need to look for an area with an interesting contrast so that it can support the composition you are going to create. Shooting with the sun directly above makes shadows harsh, but you can make it a challenge for unique photos. You can use burst mode when photographing people in motion and can choose the best one.
