Some people are confused, what is the difference between levitation and jump shot? How come it's all the same... Yep! Both styles both use fast shutter speeds, the difference is in the style used.
1. Levitation
Levitation is a technique that makes objects in a photo appear as if they are floating. This process can be done without editing with the model jumping but the model posing calmly so it looks like it is floating.
This technique has been used since 1905 by Jacques Henri Lartigue through his work entitled "Cousin "Bichonade" in Flight" and was again popularized by Natsumi Hayashi.
2. Jump shot
This technique is a jumping technique where the subject appears to be jumping, not floating. In this technique the subject will actually jump.
