Get to Know Architectural Photography

In architectural photography, you need to master basic lighting techniques so that your photos are attractive. A well-captured play of light can produce stunning photos  it is detailed and interesting. But to have sensitivity requires a lot of practice.

1. Composition

Architecture is not only about composition, but is the harmony of various components such as symmetry, flow, contrast, light which will produce interesting photos. The angle at which the image is taken determines the composition, the composition determines the harmony of a photo. A balanced composition is not always an exactly symmetrical image.

There are 2 balance concepts that you can learn, symmetrical and asymmetrical. Symmetry is a balance in which the elements are evenly located around a central point. This composition is quite easy because many historical buildings have balanced right and left proportions.

Take a look at the illustration below:

Balance involves weight, color, size, specific gravity and shape. A slim shape will look lighter when compared to a cube, for example.

Asymmetric balance is widely referred to as distributed weight although it has a different appearance. You can create balance on each side even though the shapes are different, besides that you can also pay attention to the visual effects of shape, color and lighting.
