Throughout Indonesia, people formed popular laskar troops, to carry out the struggle, who then obtained weapons in various ways, buying from the black market, confiscating ex-Japanese weapons and even assembling them themselves. These people's paramilitary troops were later merged with the BKR to become the TNI.
